Experience
a little bit of Britain by taking a mini tour around our very British
capital, Stanley, on a vintage London Route master Double Decker Bus.
Join our experienced Local Guide and head out to the east of the capital
past the Cross of Sacrifice which honours those lost in the 2nd World
War, and the 1982 Memorial Wood, where there is a tree planted for each
life lost during the Falklands War, and also one for each service person
lost in accidents since.
On the outskirts of Stanley you will see peat bogs, the 'Totem Pole',
which has the names of towns and cities all over the world attached to
it, and the beautiful white sand on Surf Bay. You will continue to Stanley
Airport where, due to the age of the bus, you will turn around and come
back up the same road in a westerly direction until you reach Reservoir
Road and the link back into Stanley.
You will then pass the Falkland Islands Community School and the King
Edward VII Memorial Hospital before heading past Government House en route
to the Museum. This exciting little Museum offers you a great insight
into the history of the Islands, and well worth the 30 minute stop.
It is then back on the Double Decker to return to the Jetty Visitor Centre
passing all the major landmarks that are well documented on Ross Road.
These include the Liberation Monument, the mizzen mast of the SS Great Britian on Victory Green, Arch Green containing an arch made of blue whale jaw bones,
Christ Church Cathedral and the Jubilee Villas.
This is a very stylish way to have a look around our colourful little
capital.
